AJK has an area of 13,297 Sq. Km, population of 4 Million, literacy rate over 76% and unemployment rate of 12% (significantly higher than national rate of 6%). Due to minimal agriculture, industry and private sector HR export is the only mainstay of its economy.

AJK-TEVTA was established in 2007 to provide Vocational & Technical education at certificate and diploma level (technicians and entry-level technologists respectively). Skilled and trained manpower is an important component of any industrial undertaking, therefore the survival of a country in a newly expanding global market is not possible, until it strives to be more competitive. Therefore, improving skill and capabilities of the unemployed educated youth is considered to be the most important intervention..
